WOW Offers Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Retirement Communities, and Home Care Agencies a New Way to Support Employees, Address Turnover, and Expand Wellness Services
PINCKNEY – Employee turnover remains one of the biggest challenges facing organizations that care for seniors and people who need assistance with daily living.
Nursing homes, assisted living facilities, retirement communities, and in-home care agencies depend on dedicated caregivers to provide consistent, compassionate service. Yet many of these workers face their own challenges, including physical demands, emotional stress, family responsibilities, and financial pressures.
For employers, losing an experienced caregiver means more than filling an open position. It can create additional recruiting and training expenses, scheduling difficulties, increased workloads for remaining employees, and disruptions in continuity of care.
According to the 2025–2026 Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report, annual turnover among certified nursing assistants was approximately 42 percent. Home care agencies also face significant Retention challenges.
What if employers could offer caregivers additional wellness resources, help employees address their individual needs, and potentially do so without increasing their net operating costs?
That is the opportunity WOW’s supplemental wellness program offers.
Your Wellbeing. Your Life. Your Choice.
Unlike traditional employee wellness programs that emphasize the same activities for everyone, WOW gives participating employees access to a variety of resources they can explore based on their individual circumstances.
For a caregiver experiencing emotional exhaustion, that might mean confidential mental health counseling or stress management support.
For an employee struggling to find time for a doctor’s appointment, it might mean accessing virtual medical care without traveling to a clinic.
For someone managing prescription expenses, it could mean obtaining medications at reduced prices or accessing eligible generic medications at no cost.
For employees balancing caregiving responsibilities at work and at home, WOW offers wellness resources through a digital dashboard and mobile app.
The central idea is simple: Employees should be free to pursue wellbeing in ways that fit their lives.
Wellness Services That Complement Existing Healthcare Coverage
WOW is designed to supplement—not replace—an employer’s existing healthcare coverage.
Depending on program eligibility and service terms, employees may have access to:
- 24/7 telemedicine: Virtual access to medical consultations, urgent care resources, and primary care services.
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing: Counseling, stress management, emotional resilience resources, and support groups.
- Prescription savings: Access to eligible no-cost medications and discounts on other prescriptions.
- Dental discounts: Up to 60 percent savings through participating providers.
- Personalized wellness resources: Health assessments, wellness coaching, educational programs, and support for healthier daily habits.
- Financial wellbeing: Potential improvements in take-home pay through the program’s payroll structure, depending on individual circumstances.
Employees can choose wellness resources that meet their personal needs while completing the program’s required activities.
Especially Valuable for In-Home Caregivers
Home care agencies offer a significant opportunity for WOW.
Unlike employees at a single nursing home or assisted living facility, in-home caregivers often travel between clients, work independently, and maintain schedules that change week to week.
Those working conditions can make traditional wellness programs difficult to access.
WOW’s virtual healthcare services, counseling resources, and mobile wellness platform can provide additional flexibility for eligible caregivers, including those who work outside conventional business hours.
For home care agencies competing to recruit and retain dependable employees, these services could meaningfully strengthen their employee value proposition.
More Wellness for Employees. Less Administration for Employers
One of WOW’s important advantages is its administrative support.
According to WOW representatives, the program handles employee wellness administration and related paperwork, reducing the additional work employers must do.
For nursing home administrators and home care agency operators already managing staffing, scheduling, regulatory requirements, and resident or client services, that support could be especially valuable.
Why does the program work?
The Wow program is a Cafeteria plan under Section 125 of the IRS Code. This plan allows a tax-deductible contribution of up to $1,200 per employee. The deduction is calculated before federal income, Social Security, and Medicare FICA taxes.
The benefit legally lowers the individual’s tax liability, increasing take-home pay, and reduces the employer’s matching FICA contributions, saving money.
When the program is deployed, the employee selects a benefit from over 60 areas, and the employer deducts the $300 cost pre-tax, creating the savings.
With traditional health benefits, the taxes are calculated from the gross paycheck without the deduction. The program applies the deduction in reverse order, creating more revenue for both employees and the employer.
The carrier administers the program; the employer only provides payroll support. This means employers will not need to hire a benefit coordinator.
Could Better Wellness Support Help Reduce Turnover?
Caregiver turnover has many causes, including compensation, scheduling, workload, management practices, and career opportunities.
No single wellness program can eliminate those challenges.
However, providing employees with additional support for their physical, emotional, and financial Wellbeing may help employers show they value their workforce.
For nursing homes, assisted living facilities, retirement communities, and home care agencies, WOW could become one component of a broader employee recruitment and Retention strategy.
The program may be especially attractive to organizations that want to expand employee wellness services without developing and administering their own wellness infrastructure.
A Different Approach to Supporting Caregivers
The people who care for older adults and vulnerable individuals deserve opportunities to care for themselves.
WOW is built around the idea that wellbeing is personal. Employees have different health concerns, family responsibilities, financial circumstances, and wellness goals.
Giving caregivers more choices—and making those services easier to access—offers employers another way to support the people who support their residents and clients.
More wellness choices for caregivers. Less administrative work for employers—a program designed to minimize additional net costs.
