ROYAL OAK – There’s a novel way for Michigan to increase tax revenue by legalizing recreational use of cannabis. Were cannabis legal in Michigan in 2017, over $1 billion would be generated by the business in Michigan, and some $221 million in tax revenue, so says Peter Schwartz with Supported Intelligence, part of the Anderson Economic Group. Schwartz also said there is huge momentum in the legislature to legalize pot sales.

“There has been plenty of change in a very short period of time, leading to many false assumptions about the size and scope of the marketplace,” said Schwartz, who edited the report, “Most of that comes from cheerleaders for the industry.” Schwartz stressed the report as the only one on the cannabis industry assembled by business economics professionals.
