SOUTHFIELD—The Engineering Society of Detroit announced that its exam review classes for the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering state examinations would be held online this fall.

To register or for more information, call (248) 353-0735, ext. 119, or visit https://www.esd.org/programs/fe/ or https://www.esd.org/programs/pe/.

The FE review course will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 21 through Oct. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. via the Zoom online platform.

FE courses by discipline include civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. The FE course costs $1,000 for ESD members and $1.200 for non-members—or join ESD for $99 and pay the member price.

Students who register will receive a binder and the course materials will be provided by the instructors. Textbooks are mandatory for this course.

Students receive a 15 percent discount on materials specific to ESD’s courses by ordering direct from Professional Publications. Please contact ESD for a promo code.

The PE review course will be taught Saturdays from July 25 through Sept. 12. Civil and environmental engineering will be taught from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while electrical power and mechanical engineering will be taught from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost of the PE course is $900 for ESD members, or $1,100 for non-members, or join ESD for $99 and pay the member price.

The PE exam is an open-book test for Civil and Electrical. For that reason, ESD strongly encourages students to purchase the Engineering Reference Manual for the PE Exam in their specific discipline for the course. There are Reference Manuals for Civil Engineering, Electrical-Power, Environmental Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

There are also additional study materials for specific sub-disciplines. Included in Civil Engineering are construction, geotechnical, structural, transportation, water resources, and environmental control systems. Included in Mechanical Engineering are HVAC and refrigeration, mechanical systems and materials, and thermal and fluids systems.

To receive a 15 percent discount on these materials, visit Professional Publications Inc. Students must request a promo code from ESD to receive the discount

PE license holders enjoy faster career advancement, can stamp and seal designs and bid for government contracts, and become qualified to work as a consultant or the principal of an engineering firm.

ESD has been providing the exam prep courses since 1941, successfully preparing thousands of candidates for the state licensing exam, in a small group setting from instructors who have first hand knowledge of the course material.

Visit www.ncees.org to get information on the dates for the FE CBT Exam and how to register.

As a guarantee, if students do not pass the state exam after taking the ESD review course, students may attend the course a second time no later than the year after taking the course for only a $50 materials fee.

If inclement weather or another reason beyond our control causes the cancellation of a class, we will make our best effort to inform students, via e-mail and by phone, and the class will be rescheduled to a later date.

Students must contact the registration department at least 72 hours before the course starts to get a full refund.

After the course starts, students may receive a 75 percent refund prior to the start of the second class. No refunds will be given after the start of the second class.

In compliance with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, these courses are Equal Opportunity Programs. Students with special needs should let ESD know when registering for the class—or no later than two weeks before the scheduled course start date—and ESD will make reasonable efforts to provide accommodations.
