DETROIT – Grand Circus, Michigan’s leading technology training institute, in partnership with Facebook announced the next round of Facebook coding Bootcamp scholarships – aimed at preparing the state’s residents to fill open technology roles.

“We are committed to helping reverse the skills gap in America by giving individuals and companies the tools they need to flourish in an increasingly digital economy. We’re thrilled to work with Grand Circus to help prepare people for the next wave of digital-driven careers,” said Parisa Sabeti Zagat, Public Policies Program Director at Facebook.

The Facebook coding Bootcamp program will provide full scholarships – valued at $9,750 – to 25 students who enroll in a Grand Circus Bootcamp at either the Detroit or Grand Rapids campus. These boot camps are specifically designed for individuals who are looking to land a career in technology.

“Our partnership with Facebook has increased accessibility to our programs and has provided the local tech scene with homegrown talent,” said Damien Rocchi, Founder, and CEO of Grand Circus. “The tech industry continues to rapidly evolve, and partnerships with technology leaders allow us to quickly and effectively adapt our training to ensure our graduates are highly effective software developers.”

Over the past three years, Facebook has provided scholarships for 70 Grand Circus students and digital marketing micro-credential training for another 900 students across the state. These graduates now work at major Michigan tech companies including United Shore, Comerica Park, LevelEleven, Perficient, Spectrum Health, and more.

“Knowing that I wanted to pursue a career in technology, but feeling lost on how to get there, I found Grand Circus and their Facebook Bootcamp,” said Allie Stehney, a recipient of the 2017 scholarship. “The curriculum for this Bootcamp prepared me well to work with new technology and frameworks within the world of development. Now, I’m a developer at Quickly, a startup in Detroit. I absolutely love my job and loved my time at Grand Circus.”

This newest round of scholarships is a continuation of the Facebook Digital Skills Program – aimed at training 3,000 Michiganders in coding and social media business marketing. The initiative launched in Fall 2017 and provides adults with the necessary skills to thrive in a global, digital environment.

Facebook scholarships will be awarded to eligible students accepted in the Detroit June Java coding Bootcamp or the Grand Rapids C# .NET July Bootcamp. These programs provide students with hands-on experience as they learn to build fully functional applications in Michigan’s most in-demand languages.
