DETROIT – Last week during the Detroit Auto Show, state and industry leaders shared a new state mobility strategy. The strategy contains 11 goals that Michigan must achieve to maintain our position as the global mobility leader through 2030 and beyond.

Goal 1: Create 20,000 new jobs by 2026, and increase the median wage of mobility jobs.

Goal 2: Add 7,000 workers with mobility credentials by 2030, and increase diversity in the sector’s workforce.

Goal 3: Ensure Michigan maintains a resilient auto manufacturing sector that supports at least 170,000 jobs through 2030.

Goal 4: By 2030, deploy 100K EV chargers to support 2 million EVs and improve access to hydrogen infrastructure.

Goal 5: Maintain at least 80 percent of EV charging off-peak to minimize impacts to the grid.

Goal 6: Reduce congestion and traffic crash rates statewide by 2026.

Goal 7: Provide residents with consistent access to mobility-as-a-service options across Michigan’s 77 transit agencies by 2025.

Goal 8: Continue to lead the nation in mobility and electrification R&D spend.

Goal 9: Become a top 10 state for VC funding growth by 2026.

Goal 10: Become a top 10 state for federal mobility investments.

Goal 11: Lead the nation in EV and AV friendliness through responsive policies.

Eight state departments, countless industry partners, academia, and local partners all contributed to this strategy. Now it’s time to create the partnerships, programs, and policies necessary to achieve them.
