LANSING—Connected Nation Michigan, the state’s unit of the broadband advocacy group Connected Nation, will host a webinar on telehealth usage and advances for patients and doctors on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The event, set to begin at 11 a.m. Eastern time, will feature a discussion with Ryan Palmer, chief of the Telecommunications Access Policy Division within the Wireline Competition Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. The division Palmer leads has principal oversight responsibility for all aspects of universal service policy issues, including the COVID-19 Telehealth Program.

“Since the Coronavirus outbreak, the immediate need for expanding telehealth and telemedicine has grown tremendously,” said Eric Frederick, executive director of CN Michigan. “Decisions made at the FCC during the pandemic have opened doors for many healthcare providers to reach more of their patients. We want to help everyone understand how these decisions are made, what they should know to access telehealth, and how what is happening at the federal level impacts people at home.”

During this webinar, participants will explore the FCC’s approach to telemedicine before and during the pandemic as well as long-term plans for improving and expanding access to this technology to more people and communities.

He is a graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law.
