CHICAGO ? What?s the hottest web sites the week of April 15, the day when personal income taxes must be filed with the IRS? Tax-related sites, according to comScore.
.More than 1.2 million and 1 million consumers visited IRS.gov on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13, respectively. TurboTax.com drew 320,000 visitors on Wednesday, while HRBlock.com was visited by 214,000 Americans. Last year, 1.9 million procrastinators visited IRS.gov on April 15.
comScore traditionally sees two major spikes in traffic to tax sites. The first occurs between late January and mid-February as early filers visit tax sites in droves. Not surprisingly, the second peak occurs in the week leading up to April 15.
This year’s early peak occurred during the week ending February 6. Nearly 14 million Americans visited the Taxes category during this week alone. During the full month of February, more than 29 million consumers visited sites in the Taxes category.
What does it mean? Despite promising themselves that they wouldn’t wait to file until the last moment again this year, millions of Americans inevitably did just that.
