AUBURN HILLS – Jeff Bell, Chrysler’s vice president for product strategy, will be heading to Seattle next week. After a six-year stint in Auburn Hills, Bell is leaving the auto industry and signing on in a senior position with Microsoft.

A well-placed source told TheCarConnection.Com that the decision to bolt had nothing to do with Bell?s recent reassignment from marketing to the product side at Chrysler.

?He had the career chance of a lifetime,? the source told TheCarConnection.com.

Bell is reportedly a serious computer game enthusiast who encouraged Chrysler to get its products placed in various software packages. It is not clear, however, if he will be directly involved in gaming-related activities at Microsoft, which produces, among other things, the hugely popular Xbox videogame system.

Microsoft, a Chrysler insider pointed out, is a major supplier to the automaker. The technology giant not only provides office software but has been aggressively expanding its role as a vendor of in-car programming.
