LANSING – Consumers Energy can speed up construction a wind turbine project by three years in Tuscola County following a ruling issued Thursday by the Public Service Commission.

Last year the PSC allowed Consumers to buy 19 wind turbines for its Cross Winds Energy Park II in Tuscola County and said the utility could have an option to another 33 turbines for a future development. Originally the utility planned to begin construction on the new project in 2022.

The decision allows Consumers to move the construction timeline up to 2019.

PSC Chair Sally Talberg said the accelerate construction will help the state meet the expanded renewable energy portfolio standards set by the Legislature in 2016.
