LANSING – Pure Michigan’s public relations campaign has been awarded both silver and bronze awards for its marketing campaign in 2016. The awards come from the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.

Those awards include:

Skiing Michigan’s Hidden Gem: Skiing Magazine

Mount Bohemia is a hidden gem extreme skiing destination, with the Midwest’s longest runs, highest vertical drop (900 feet) and deepest powder. The feature “U.P. Extreme: Mining the goods in Michigan’s copper country” in Skiing Magazine detailed the writer’s experience on the slopes and Mt. Bohemia’s history. The 7-page print article in Skiing Magazine (Circ. 50,000) was published in the October 2015 issue and posted online (UMV 48,090). Elements of the trip were shared through personal and Skiing Magazine owned social channels. 

Beertown Detroit: Draft Magazine

With Americans’ continued love affair with craft beer, Detroit offers a mecca for beer aficionados or those looking to sample something new. “Beertown: Detroit” appeared in DRAFT Magazine, one of the most prominent beer enthusiast magazines, both online (UMV: 57,705), and in the July/August 2016 print issue (circ: 167,571) as well as being shared on DRAFT Magazine’s Facebook (123,165 likes) and Twitter (87,337 followers) pages. The article illustrated that Detroit’s comeback goes hand in hand with hometown pride, offering suggestions on how to experience the local breweries, bars and restaurants by distinct neighborhoods in the city. 

“These stories showcase two very different travel experiences available in Michigan, while illustrating the innovation, enthusiasm and hospitality that can be found all throughout our state’s leisure travel industry,” said Dave Lorenz, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “We work closely with our industry partners on these features and the opportunities they present to share travel-inspiring content to new audiences across a wide range of interests.”

Since 2013, the Pure Michigan campaign has been recognized with 20 Adrian Awards, including Best in Show for Public Relations in 2014. The HSMAI Adrian Awards are open to all travel-related industries with categories in advertising, digital marketing and public relations, receiving more than 1,000 entries annually.  

The Pure Michigan brand was created by the Birmingham, Michigan office of McCannErickson.
