GRAND RAPIDS – HealthBar, a custom healthcare services to consumers and businesses across its service areas, announced a new leader has joined its executive team. Martin Axelrod joins HealthBar in a new role as its Director of Finance and General Counsel and a member of the leadership team.
In this role, Axelrod will provide leadership to navigate the next phase of growth for HealthBar. With significant growth underway in both its Healthcare Partnership Program and statewide School Nursing Program, Axelrod will work to establish new tools, processes, hiring decisions and strategic partners to foster the company’s growth plans.

Axelrod is a corporate attorney with a successful and diverse pre-law career. In the twenty-five years preceding law school, he worked in sales management and consulting at IBM, in sales and trading for a global investment bank, in software development lifecycle quality and testing, and as a relationship manager and lead advisor for a private bank’s wealth management team. Axelrod has also owned and operated several businesses, including a marina, Chicago’s largest outdoor restaurant venue, and a financial literacy internet start-up.
As an attorney at the largest national law firm based in Michigan, Martin handled contract negotiation and drafting, corporate governance, commercial real estate, and financing transactions. As President of the CFA Society West Michigan, he began a multi-year statewide campaign promoting ethics in the financial services industry and continues to teach business ethics at Grand Valley State University.
Axelrod earned his BA (Mathematics) and MBA (Finance) from Northwestern University, and his JD and LLM (Corporate Law & Finance) from Western Michigan University. He is a CFA Charterholder and a CFP(R) certificant.
