DETROIT — Guardhat, developer of a smart hard hat that monitors worker safety and health in industrial settings, announced it had closed a $20 million Series A funding round.

The round was led by RTP Ventures, a New York City-based subsidiary of a Moscow, Russia-based venture capital firm, RuNet Holdings Ltd.. The round was joined by 3M Ventures, the venture capital arm of Maplewood, Minn.-based 3M Corp.; Caterpillar Venture Capital, the venture capital arm of Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar Inc.; Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund of Washington, D.C.; Silicon Valley Bank of Santa Clara, Calif.; and Detroit Venture Partners.

The company says the funding will enable Guardhat to focus on expediting company growth and tech development, while expanding its international reach.
