ROYAL OAK – Applications are now open for the sixth annual GreenLight Business Model Competition, a $100,000 statewide contest focused on early-stage entrepreneurs, based in Michigan, less than two years old.

Applicants must be Michigan residents and have a well-crafted business idea. Applicants who already have a registered business must provide evidence that the entity did not incorporate prior to March 28, 2016. Winning funds must be used to start or further invest in business ventures in Michigan.

There is also a student competition open only to Michigan State University students.

MSU Foundation spokesman Aaron Richard provides details on the program that received more than 200 applications in the last competition. Roughly 20 finalists will be selected with a top prize now estimated to be $40,000.

Applicants don’t have to be involved in technology. Just entrepreneurs ready to invest in themselves and their ideas. You don’t even need to have an established business. But you do need to apply by Feb. 28.
