ANN ARBOR – Ann Arbor SPARK and Deepgram’s first employee, Adam Sypniewski, are working together to bring a new series of meetups to Ypsilanti focused on making connections between high tech professionals in eastern Washtenaw County.

The first three events are scheduled for Spark East on January 24, February 21, and March 28, 2017, at 6 p.m. The series kicks off with a presentation by Sypniewski called “The Singularity: How Artificial Intelligence (AI) is Changing Our World.”

Sypniewski earned his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in physics, working on machine learning applications to understand dark energy. His approach worked by estimating redshift, a sort of cosmic ruler used to measure the distances to other galaxies. His experience also includes working at CERN on the Large Hadron Collider, and as a research scientist at SoarTech, a company specializing in top-notch cognitive AI for defense applications.

There’s so much innovation happening in this region. The meetups are a great way to bring those in high tech careers together while shining a light on Ypsilanti as a cool place to work. Ideally, my fellow innovators will join me in creating a network here in eastern Washtenaw and help attract attention to it as a place where you can do cutting edge work.”

To kick off the meetup series, Sypniewski will present on machine learning and AI.

Deepgram’s AI brain can recognize speech, search for spoken keywords, and intelligently categorize audio and video. It increases its customer’s revenue by analyzing their data and providing intelligent feedback. Global brands are adopting Deepgram’s technology to gain actionable insight from calls, meetings, podcasts, video clips, and lectures.

“AI is a rapidly evolving field, and there are very few people in the world doing what we do at Deepgram,” Sypniewski explained. “In telling our story, I hope to get people excited about new technology being developed here in the Ann Arbor region.”
