WASHINGTON DC – On Nov. 25, the FAA issued a Part 107 waiver for the operation of multiple small unmanned aircraft to Project Wing. This is the first Part 107 waiver granted to X’s (an innovation lab at Alphabet and formerly Google X) drone delivery project, which received the OK from the FAA to test drone deliveries in the U.S. in August.

According to a Project Wing spokesperson, Project Wing was “granted this waiver as part of our ongoing test operations in rural California.”

The waiver allows a single drone operator to fly up to 20 drones at once (respectable, but nowhere near Intel’s 500), but they must not fly higher than 200 feet above ground level.  While these height restrictions may appear inconvenient to some, according to the Project Wing website, the project focuses on low-altitude airspace (below 500 feet).
