TROY ? Some 65 people attended Walsh College’s Secure Detroit conference on Thursday, where security professionals picked up continuing education credits to maintain their CISSP certification.

Nan Poulios, Director, Information Assurance Center, said it was the second year Walsh hosted the event. A third event is planned for next spring.

?All of the people here are geared towards those holding the CISSP certification,?? she said. ?To maintain that they need ongoing CPE credits. There are national seminars they can attend, but with travel costs cut back, Walsh and ISC(2) wanted to offer them these credits locally. It?s the only one held in Michigan.?

CISSP stands for Certified Information Systems Security Professional, a certification equivalent to a CPA for accounting professionals, she said. CISSP holders are proficient in the following areas: Access Control Systems and Methodology, Applications and Systems Development Security, Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning, Cryptography, Law Investigation and Ethics, Operations Security, Physical Security, Security Architecture and Models, Security Management Practices, Telecommunications and Network Security.

Poulios said Walsh College also has developed CISSP review courses. Exam preparation courses are scheduled for May 22-26 and Aug. 21-26 for exams that take place June 10 and Sept. 23.
