RICHMOND HILLS, Ontario – As part of version 6.0 of its Webwasher gateway security product, Securing Computing Corp. has made several additions and enhancements including the integration of CipherTrust’s TrustedSource, a company that Secure Computing recently acquired.

TrustedSource is a reputation-based security system that has 4500 sensors deployed worldwide that monitors billions of messages that flow through it, said Tim Roddy, director of product marketing for Secure Computing.

“TrustedSource analyzes [the billions of messages] and detects when email behavior changes and looks at the source of the email for spam and phishing attacks [in real time],” said Roddy. “The WebWasher Gateway is now providing information on URL filtering and having all that information can provide additional protection to our customers,” he added.

In addition to incorporating TrustedSource’s URL filtering, Webwasher 6.0 has also added anti-malware, which provides proactive protection against targeted attacks that organizations face from malicious software both unknown and signature-based.

All the enhancements join Webwasher’s gateway product that already includes anti-virus, firewall and SSL scanning that filters encrypted SSL traffic to help enforce corporate compliance.

“One of the trends we see occurring is that organizations have deployed a number of point solutions to address Web security threats,” Roddy said. “What Webwasher does is replace those point solutions with one administrator user interface that provides integrated protection on these different types of Web traffic and Web security threats.”

The consolidation of security capabilities into one platform is being lauded by one analyst.

“We are massive proponents of consolidation of security technologies and seeing vendors bring products to the marketplace with those capabilities is really a good thing and glad to see it happen [with Webwasher],” said James Quin, senior research analyst with Info-Tech Research Group.

As well, the analyst applauded the addition of TrustedSource into Webwasher.

“Incorporating TrustedSource enhances the value of the scanning and blocking results that Webwasher delivers because it allows an overlay of credibility, a third party verification, onto the results that are provided,” said Quin.

He added that by having TrustedSource as part of Webwasher, Secure Computing is a step-ahead of its competitors where other vendors have to play catch-up in adding a technology like TrustedSource.

Webwasher 6.0 is available as software for Windows, Linux and Solaris. As well, Secure Computing is also making Webwasher available in three new appliances.

“We [have] three appliances at different price performance points to meet the needs of organizations of various sizes,” said Roddy.

The first appliance, the Webwasher WW500 is priced at $2,995 and Roddy said is suitable for up to 4000 users. The Webwasher WW1100 can support up to 8,000 users and priced at $6,995. The third appliance is the Webwasher WW1900 and is targeted for up to 16,000 users and costs $13,995.

Quin said the introduction of different tiers of the Webwasher product makes the product more appealing to a broader range of customers that helps Secure Computing not only sell more products but also makes sure more clients are able to achieve its benefits.
