DETROIT ? The Michigan Council of Women in Technology and its Foundation last week awarded scholarships of $59,000 to seven students and two girls robotics teams from local schools and universities.

In an award ceremony held on May, 4 the following seven students received individual scholarships:

Kathe Frassrand for the graduate scholarship, plans to attend University of Michigan

Danielle VanDyke for undergraduate scholarship, currently attending Michigan Technological University

Nicole C. Rodia for graduating high school senior scholarship, currently attending Portage Central High School

Veronica R. Mitchell, laptop stipend, currently attending Walsh College

Michael Lynn Hannink, laptop stipend, currently attending Crossroads Charter Academy in Big Rapids, planning to attend Calvin College

Clarice M. Smith, laptop stipend, currently attending Southfield Lathrup High School

The two robotics teams which also received scholarships are No Mercy, headed by Keith Bobin from Mercy High School and GigAGirlz, headed by Marc Carlson from St.Hugo of the Hills School.

In addition, the Foundation plans to award $25,000 to 40 girls during its summer camp in June. This week long day camp is sponsored by the AT&T Foundation and hosted at Lawrence Technological University. The awardees, girls in 4th through 7th grades, will have the opportunity to experience various computer technologies, including creating their own web sites and building and programming robots.
