ANN ARBOR ? The Association for Women in Computing Ann Arbor chapter?s Top Michigan Women In Computing gala on Nov. 5 raised some $20,000 for scholarships which will go to young women studying information technology and computing.

The gala honored as the Top Michigan Women in Computing Kitty Bridges, Lynn Conway and Laura Patterson of the University of Michigan along with LuAnn Chrumka of SBC Communications, Charlotte Decker of General Motors and Christine Watson of Automatic Data Processing. The award recognizes extraordinary service in computing and outstanding scientific and technical achievement.

The third annual gala, which also recognized the winners of AWC-AA?s scholarships, was held at the Fairlane Club in Dearborn.

The Ann Arbor Chapter of the Association for Women in Computing is part of a national organization founded by 15 women in Washington, D.C., in 1978. It is one of the first professional organizations for women in computing. AWC was formed to establish and encourage communication among women in computing.
