TROY ? Carrie F. Blamer, a Walsh College student, has been named an Adams Entrepreneurial Fellow for 2005-2006. The Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan has renewed funding for the fellowship, which develops the entrepreneurial skills of promising business students or alumni by matching them with local entrepreneurs for one year.
A $126,000 grant was awarded through the Ann and Carman Adams Fund for the 2005-2006 academic year.
A CPA candidate and a 2004 Walsh College cum laude accounting graduate, Blamer will spend a year under the mentorship of Kay Linville, CPA, and owner of Linville Accounting & Tax Services in Plymouth. She is also pursuing a master of science in taxation degree at Walsh.
Blamer said she brings to the entrepreneurial fellowship her experience as an elected official, an effective leader, and respected member of the Plymouth-Canton community. She noted that recent completion of her education and the CPA exam will help further mentor Kay Linville?s goal of providing quality service to clients, and will bring a ?fresh point of view? and a ?different type of networking to the table.?
Blamer?s leadership and community involvement includes serving as secretary, treasurer, and trustee on the Plymouth-Canton Board of Education; membership in the Chamber of Commerce?s Leadership Plymouth program; preparing income taxes for low-income taxpayers for the VAST organization, serving as an examiner for the Michigan Quality Council Board of Examiners; and membership in the Rotary Club of Plymouth. Blamer said she believes that the relationship and networking skills acquired in those roles will propel her toward her goal of becoming a partner at Linville & Company.
