ANN ARBOR ? The New Enterprise Forum and the Great Lakes Entrepreneur’s Quest will present a look-see at the new Venture Michigan Fund in April at the new Michigan Information Technology Center building, the new home of Internet2.

The Venture Michigan Fund will eventually pump about $120 million into venture capital funds that will in turn invest that money in Michigan technology start ups. The Fund will begin its work when a Fund manager is named and the IRS gives it non profit status. A spokesman for State Treasurer Jay Rising said he could not say when the Fund manager and IRS status will be determined.

The April 21 program, called Venture Capital and the Economic Impact of the Venture Michigan Fund will be held at the new MITC (Michigan Information Technology Center) building, 1000 Oakbrook Drive in Ann Arbor. It will be moderated by Cindy Douglas, vice president of technology acceleration at MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corporation). She will lead Charles Rothstein, co-founder and senior managing director at Beringea, LLC; and Douglass Diggs, director of community and economic development at Detroit Renaissance.

For those unable to attend, the program will be video broadcast from the MITC building, using technology from Internet2, to Automation Alley?s headquarters in Troy and to Kalamazoo. The panelists will be able to field questions from each site and each location will have its own moderator.

There will be two Showcase Presenters, Neil Dueweke, president of nPoint; and Todd Mielke, president of Prezign. nPoint is a homeland security venture that is commercializing its proprietary Radiation Monitoring Strip to help guard against WMD’s and other radiation emitting threats from entering the U.S. Prezign is commercializing Epsys, a new Web based Product Lifecycle Management application that helps manufacturers achieve zero defects.

Networking and registration begins at 5 p.m. with the program starting at 5:45 p.m. The cost is free to NEF members and free to GLEQ members who pre-register at the GLEQ Web site, or $20 at the door and for non-members.
