KALAMAZOO – Thomson Reuters has officially acquired Kalamazoo-based Manatron, which makes tax automation and land registry software for governments, following regulatory clearance in the U.S. and Ukraine. Terms were not disclosed.
Bill McKinzie, Manatron?s former CEO, is now senior vice president and general manager of the government sector for the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters. He was unavailable for a comment.
There was no immediate word on how the acquisition may affect Manatron’s operation in Michigan. The privately held company had about 100 workers in Portage in 2009. They were among an estimated 450 employees the company has worldwide.
Since 2008, Manatron has been a privately held company owned by two investment firms, Thoma Cressey Bravo Inc. and Thoma Bravo LLC. In a news release, it claims more than 1,600 customers in 41 states and over 30 countries, and annual revenues of more than $75 million.
Manatron?s flagship solution, Government Revenue Management, is an integrated suite of web-based property recording, assessment and tax software that automates the operational, informational, and planning needs for assessors, auditors, treasurers, tax collectors and other government officials. Manatron?s software solutions are being used by governments to replace antiquated systems to help improve customer service, streamline processes and manage the growing velocity of legislative changes.
?The government tax automation space is a growing sector and a natural fit with our strategy to improve workflow efficiency for our clients through innovative technology,? said Brian Peccarelli, president of the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters.
?This is an exciting time for the Tax & Accounting business as we move into a new sector and acquire products which complement our current offering. We will now be able to provide our customers with one of the largest portfolios of products and services, irrespective of sector or size.?
The acquisition of Manatron will strengthen the expanding Tax & Accounting business as well as create a new government business group headed by McKinzie, the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters.
Manatron was founded in 1969 as a provider of in-house data-processing services for local government units in Michigan. It has grown since the early 1990s through the acquisition and integration of several application software companies. The company’s key suite of web-based property recording, assessment and tax software, called Government Revenue Management, automates the operational, informational, and planning needs for assessors, auditors, treasurers, tax collectors and other government officials.
