PORT HURON ? Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will serve as the keynote speaker at an Alternative Energy symposium in April hosted by St. Clair County Community College.

The symposium – Alternative Energy – Renewable, Sustainable and Beyond – will educate business and industry representatives, farmers, government leaders, planners, educators and the general public on emerging alternative, sustainable and renewable technologies. It will be held April 14-16.

Environmentalist Kennedy will deliver the keynote speech, Our Environmental Destiny on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for the general public as well as symposium registrants at a cost of $10 each through www.ticketmaster.com.

On April 15, there will be a series of presentations by national and regional experts. The April 16 alternative energy exhibition and auto show will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free. It will feature displays and demonstrations of new and emerging energy technologies including fuel cell, wind, solar and more. Hands-on activities are planned for all ages. Featured cars will include the U of M Solar Car Team Momentum, the hydrogen fuel cell GEM car, a variety of hybrid vehicles and remote-control miniature solar vehicles.

Symposium sessions will include a presentation by Jim Croce, chief executive officer of NextEnergy, on alternative energy from an international, national and state perspective. He will also discuss how NextEnergy is positioning Michigan to lead the nation in securing new employment opportunities in alternative energy. Other sessions will focus on agriculture, hydrogen, wind, solar, geothermal and other energies.

A $35 registration fee for Friday’s sessions includes continental breakfast and lunch. Friday’s program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on St. Clair Community College?s campus. Participants can also earn CEU credits for an additional $10.

St. Clair County Community College is spearheading the symposium, in partnership with NextEnergy, DTE Energy, Kettering University, Lambton College in Sarnia, the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County, BP Petroleum, the Macomb-St. Clair Workforce Development Board, and the Regional Workforce Development Consortium.
