BLOOMFIELD HILLS – Great Lakes Angels in May will offer a Boot Camp for high net worth individuals that may not be doing much professional investing in start-up companies. The Power of Angel Investing seminar will be held May 18th, at the VistaTech Conference Center, Schoolcraft College, in Livonia.
The Power of Angel Investing seminar has been delivered in more than 35 cities across the U.S. and in Canada and Australia. Participants ? high wealth individuals who are interested in becoming angel investors or who have limited experience and want more information on angel investing ? attest that learning from experienced angel investors, quality content and materials, networking opportunities, and learning about angel networks in their communities make it an invaluable experience.
Angel investors provide private financing for emerging growth companies that are too small to attract venture capital, but too big to rely on funding from family or friends. Angel investment rounds usually range from $250,000 to $2 million. Individual angels typically invest between $40,000 to $100,000 in a deal. Most angel investors are successful entrepreneurs, so besides financial support, many also provide business expertise and connections to the companies they fund.
The May 18th seminar will give seasoned angel investors, legal and financial experts, and potential angels a protected setting in which to network and share information. The seminar is open only to angel investors. There will be no entrepreneurs seeking capital at the seminar, and the attendee list will not be released.
?I expect to draw from angel investors in Michigan, Southern Ontario and Ohio to come in and do a one day boot camp on angel investing, which will take a lot of mystery out of this,? said David Weaver, president of Great Lakes Angels. ?It?s a Boot Camp for high net worth people that may not be doing much angel investing in a routine professional manner.
?Accredited investors are eligible,?? Weaver said. ?We?ll have an opportunity to learn from experts, and as a consequence be more willing to fund early stage companies. We?ve helped bring them into the comfort zone to help them make financial decisions. Angel groups offer them the opportunity to participate in a larger financial group with which to invest, rather than having people do it on their own.?
The seminar will include presentations, case studies and panel discussions on: finding the right angel investment opportunities, portfolio strategies, deal sources, valuation, due diligence, structuring deals, post-investment roles for angels and exit strategies. A cocktail reception where participants can network with other angel investors and the speakers will cap off the event.
Participants will receive workbooks with seminar presentations and supplementary materials, including valuation models, due diligence information, relevant news articles and leading resources on angel investing.
Sponsors are: The Rehmann Group, Dykema Gossett PLLC, Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss, P.C., TechTown and in-kind Sponsors: VisTaTech Center, MI-Small Business & Technology Development Center, Automation Alley Technology Center, Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Southwest Michigan First.
