GRAND RAPIDS – Norlight Telecommunications has adopted an unconventional approach to help recruit hard-to-find candidates for their growing number of technical jobs in the Great Lakes area. The company has created an external referral bonus program to reward anyone who assists Norlight in its quest for “new-hires” to fill vacancies, including four in Grand Rapids.
The careers site offers a $500 referral bonus for job referrals, with a few strings attached ? if the candidate is hired, the referral bonuses will be paid once the employee has completed 90 days on the job.
“We appreciate the competitive environment we’re trying to recruit within, and recognize that technical job candidates have many opportunities available to them,” said Trina Jashinsky, Norlight’s human resources vice president. “More and more, recruiting has become a function of networking, and we want to take advantage of others’ knowledge of qualified candidates, as well as their entrepreneurial spirit. This external referral program will complement our already successful employee referral program.”
