GRAND RAPIDS -The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) will be hosting several workshops this summer designed to assess the different needs of small business owners and equip them with the tools needed to start and run a business successfully.

The workshops bring together several experienced business instructors to cover topics including fundamentals of starting a business, writing a business plan, small business taxes, marketing/sales and information about management.

Time Management for Leaders is set for June 8 from 9 am -Noon at the GVSU Center for Health Sciences, 301 Michigan Ave NE, Room 115 in Grand Rapids. This Time Management session will focus on prioritization and identifying the key elements that can lead to your success as a leader. A model will be presented that the participants can easily use to prioritize, plan and work effectively. Participants will learn how to identify and eliminate time wasters that steal precious time from their day. The session will also look at the role procrastination plays in reducing effectiveness and help participants to recognize and overcome it. Pre-registration is required; $45.00 is payable at the door.

Business Start-Up Sessions will be held on:

June 10 from 9 am – Noon at the Holland Chamber of Commerce, 272 E 8th Street in Holland.

June 17 from 9 am Noon at the Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce, 900 Third Street, Suite 200 in Muskegon.

June 25 from 9 am – Noon at the Spring Lake District Library, 123 E Exchange Street, Spring Lake.

Utilizing a provided Business Start-up Kit, this session will walk attendees through a step-by-step process for launching a new business venture. Resources will be shared enabling the entrepreneur to create his or her own individual business development. Pre-registration by fax or phone is required; $45 is payable at the door.

Your Business Plan – Developing a Roadmap for Your Company’s Success will be featured on June 14 from 6 9 pm at GVSU DeVos Center Room 303C, 401 West Fulton, Grand Rapids. The time is now, to begin writing a business plan for your start-up or existing company. Learn the components of a business plan and then use the step-by-step process to complete the plan. Bank financing will require a business plan and it will help jump start your new business. The first step to completing your business plan is to start. Pre-registration is required; $45 is payable at the door.

Demystifying Small Business Taxes will be featured on June 15 from 9am 12 noon at the GVSU DeVos Center Room 303C, 401 West Fulton, Grand Rapids. This class will walk through the process of calculating, collecting, depositing, and reporting payroll taxes for employees. In addition, the class will discuss self employment tax liability and calculating quarterly estimated payments for federal, state, and local taxes. This class is ideal for existing small businesses that currently do not use a payroll service and individuals considering starting a business. Pre-registration is required; $45 is payable at the door.

The Successful Marketing Plan will be held on June 21 from 6 – 9 pm at the GVSU DeVos Center Room 303C, 401 West Fulton, Grand Rapids. Having a marketing plan, a detailed, written plan that lays out how to create customers (and sales), is absolutely essential in order to achieve that “competitive edge.” This seminar offers a step-by-step process to help you evaluate markets, identify opportunities and obstacles, map out strategies for your product or service, packaging, pricing, distribution, sales, advertising (including the Internet) promotions and more. Pre-registration is required; $45 is payable at the door.
