LANSING – Another $10 million to fund the Pure Michigan tourism campaign in the current year won overwhelming approval Tuesday in the Senate, ensuring the campaign can purchase regional spring, summer and fall advertising.

The bill (SB 110 ) would draw the money from the 21st Century Jobs Fund and change statute to make tourism funding a legal use of the fund.

Currently, $15.4 million for Pure Michigan has been appropriated for the current year with the additional funding bringing it to a total of $25.4 million. Governor Rick Snyder has called for a $25 million a year commitment for the popular advertising campaign, and his 2011-12 budget recommendation includes this funding amount.

The bill passed the Senate 36-1 with Sen. Glenn Anderson (D-Westland) the lone no vote.

A similar bill (HB 4160 ) passed the House earlier this month and is pending in the Senate.
