ANN ARBOR ? The MichBio Annual Meeting Tuesday night will bring together 150 top professionals in the state to hear Michigan Economic Development Corp. President Don Jakeway give his vision for the future of life sciences in Michigan.

Jakeway is the keynote speaker at the MichBio annual meeting this year held at the EagleCrest Conference Center in Ypsilanti. Networking starts at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and Jakeway?s speech.

MichBio Executive Director Michael Witt said also on the agenda are elections for four additional board members representing different parts of the state and different life science disciplines. The candidates are Pat Kelley from the Van Andel Research Institute, Doug Morton from Southwest Michigan Innovation Center, Jeff Mason from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and Charles Sevrain from Delphi Medical Systems.

Witt will report that MichBio membership has risen about 20 percent this year, while the MichBio web site has experienced a 250 percent boast in traffic. Witt also will tell the assembled members that MichBio has doubled its staff by hiring Mary Cary McClellan to handle marketing and promotion, Jeff Wright to handle member services, and Kelley Eskeloson to handle administrative support.

What?s more, Witt will provide an overview of the MichBio Expo Sept. 28-29 at the Cobo Conference Center in Detroit. Day one will focus on student chapters and life science careers, the second day will be a trade show.
