ANN ARBOR ? The annual Michigan Growth Capital Symposium has a new digital face, a quarterly eNewsletter called the The Growth Capital Journal, which provides the latest venture capital and private equity research and trends, and deal making in the Midwest.
The first edition was emailed Feb. 21 to more than 33,000 IT and business decision makers in Michigan and across the nation. The Growth Capital Journal is published by The University of Michigan Ross School of Business’ Center for Venture Capital and Private Equity Finance. Its Director is David Brophy, who pioneered the Michigan Growth Capital Symposium 24 years ago.
“The Journal will encourage the financing and building of entrepreneurial businesses in the Midwest and the nation,” Brophy said. “It will inform the community of investors and entrepreneurs on trends and developments in private equity markets as well as provide a forum for the exchange of new, research-based information and views among venture market participants, academic researchers and public policy makers. We welcome, as readers and collaborators, all those who share an interest in these pursuits.”
The Growth Capital Journal discusses investment trends, current deals, success stories and related topics. It also provides readers with the progress of past Michigan Growth Capital Symposium presenting companies and upcoming MGCS news and happenings.
In the first edition of the Journal, Brophy discusses the recovery of the U.S. venture capital market and its impact on the Midwest. A study sponsored by the CVP looks at the performance of Private Placements in Public Entities (PIPEs) and shows that PIPEs have become an important source of financing for young, publicly traded firms.
Additional articles in the first edition include Impact of Pfizer Acquisition of Esperion Ripples Through Michigan Life Sciences Industry a Year Later, written by Mitechnews.Com Editor Mike Brennan. Other stories include MBA Students Gain Real-World Insight in Private Equity Finance, as well as highlights from the private equity deals that occurred in the Midwest region from August 29, 2004 to January 29.
The Journal is targeted at past attendees and future prospective attendees of MGCS as well as companies interested in receiving news on Midwest venture deals and activity, and trends year round. Readers get an inside look at interviews with past and upcoming attendees and keynote presenters to the conference as well as politicians and corporate leaders.
