LANSING – Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Eli Yshai on Monday signed a declaration of cooperation on developing alternative energy and water technology companies, part of Granholm’s trade mission to Israel and Jordan.

Under the agreement the two entities will create working groups to focus on energy technology development, including energy efficiency, as well as water conservation and water re-use technologies.

In a statement, Granholm said the agreement will help to both encourage the state to use water more efficiently as well as develop new jobs.

Granholm also met for part of Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and on Sunday she and Michigan Economic Development Corporation President Jim Epolito were the keynote speakers at an automotive event with the Michigan Israel Business Bridge and the Israel Export Institute.

This latest trade mission is the seventh Granholm has undertaken since being elected governor.
