Gov. Granholm Requests 5 Percent Pay Cut

LANSING ? Gov. Jennifer Granholm, saying she was acting in light of the continuing economic problems and the sacrifices made by state employees, requested Wednesday a 5 percent cut in pay for her office and lieutenant governor.

The State Officers Compensation Commission adopted the request and forwarded it to the Legislature which must approve it in order for the cut to go into effect January 1, 2007.

The commission did not discuss any other salary determinations under its purview: Supreme Court justices, legislators, secretary of state and attorney general as it waits for the Legislature to implement a 2002 constitutional amendment changing how pay levels are determined.

The governor’s pay is currently $177,000 and the lieutenant governor’s pay is $123,900.
