SOUTHFIELD ? Former Michigan State Rep. Marc Shulman will lead the new government relations office he has established in Lansing for Raymond & Prokop. Shulman also will lead the law firm?s lobbying efforts.
Shulman, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives since 1998, comes to R&P after serving as the chair of the Michigan House Appropriations Committee and subcommittee of fiscal oversight and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Under Michigan term limits guidelines, the three- term house representative stepped down at the end of 2004.
?We had a relationship with him prior to his departure from the legislature,?? said Raymond & Prokop spokesman Mark Gilman. ?Our firm fit what he was looking for. We?re pretty entrepreneurial, which he likes. And we had a need in Lansing, which he wanted to fill.?
Shulman?s experience with telecommunications legislation also was a plus, Gilman said.
?We think he?ll be a great asset to our China practice as well,?? he said.
Shulman, a graduate of Michigan State University and the Cooley Law School, has maintained a private law practice since 1981 and also served as a West Bloomfield Township trustee. He also has been active in working to gain grant funding for Automation Alley and helping spur economic development in Oakland County.
