DETROIT – Outgoing Department of Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham could become the auto industry?s chief lobbyist after leaving the White House staff.
So says a report in Automotive News. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers is looking for a high-profile person to take over the lead spot on their lobbying staff, and former Michigan Republican Senator is familiar with automotive issues.
Automotive News says that Abraham could be a problematic choice, because of his history with Michigan industry and the fact that the alliance has nonvoting members that could feel the Big Three have too much power with Abraham. The position, the News reports, would pay about $1 million a year.
