GRAND RAPIDS – West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum will host a luncheon examining climate resilience in West Michigan on Monday, February 13 at the Grand Rapids Public Library.

This month’s featured speaker is Jeff Andresen, Professor and State Climatologist for Michigan at Michigan State University.

The primary focus of Andresen’s research has been the influence of weather and climate on agriculture, especially within Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. Current and past themes include; climatological trends and potential impacts, impacts associated with potential future changes in climate, weather and risk management in agricultural production systems, winter hardiness and mortality of crops and insects, and the measurement and use of weather data for determination of plant disease risk.

During the meeting, WMSBF will introduce its recent work on climate resiliency with local organizations as part of its Climate Resiliency Framework Initiative.

Andresen, the principal investigator for the Great Lakes Sciences and Assessments Program, which is funding the WMSBF project, will discuss climate change in the Great Lakes and West Michigan, and why communities and organizations should consider adaptation within their response to climate change and environmental programs.
