ANN ARBOR – Thanksgiving and year-end holidays are upon us. Whether you have had a Moderna, Pfizer or JnJ vaccine to date, please get a full three course dose before you go visiting or you are not properly protected.
If you can not get to full protection by Thanksgiving, then wear a mask and visit outside, have three negative rapid home tests 3 days before Thanksgiving or get tested at a local testing center two days before Thanksgiving  – especially around the vulnerable – the unvaccinated, the over 60 and those with preconditions or ill.
It is critical that everyone who has had the 2 shot mRNA vax immediately receive a booster if their second shot occurred 6 months or longer ago.
Sadly, my August 1 prediction of 789,000 deaths at the end of the year will be low (the FDA booster recommendation surprised me and was way too conservative).  We will not get to herd immunity until we achieve about 96% full vaccination rates (including boosters) in the U.S.  Only at this protective point will COVID become endemic which means we can control our outbreaks with vaccines and medicines.
If you are interested, we may schedule a time for all of us through Harvard to have a discussion before Christmas.
Please stay safe over Thanksgiving and Christmas.
