DETROIT – Video footage appearing to show glowing orbs above Detroit well above the normal service ceiling of drones has cast more doubt on the mystery sweeping the country.
The US has been gripped by mass drone sightings in recent weeks, which started in New Jersey before spreading across New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, California.
Delays in revealing what the objects are have led to a spate of theories – from UFOs, Russian craft and even part of a hunt for smuggled nuclear material.

But John Kirby, the National Security Council spokesperson, recently attempted to waylay any fears, saying: ”We assess that the sightings to date include a combination of lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and even stars that were mistakenly reported as drones.
”We have not identified anything anomalous or any national security or public safety risk over the civilian airspace in New Jersey or other states in the Northeast,” before concluding “the work continues.”

But a remarkable new video captured by a passenger on a domestic flight from Chicago O’Hare International airport heading into Newark Liberty International appears to show at least four glowing objects hovering above the clouds.
Reddit user EasilyAmused, who declined to share his full name but is referred to here as Ed, told The Express: “I started noticing the objects about 20 minutes into the flight and then towards the end of the flight. The objects show more detail than I noticed with my naked eye.”
Whatever Ed saw does not appear to be a simple reflection of any lights inside the aircraft.

He added that he was so transfixed by what he was seeing that he’s not sure if any other passengers noticed the objects. “I only showed my wife but otherwise was glued to the window and my phone,” he continued.
Analysis of the airliner’s flight plan suggests that it would have been flying over Detroit at around the time of the sighting. With the cloud layer estimated at a height of between 8,000 and 12,000 feet, it’s unlikely that any commercially-available drone would be able to hold station at the apparent altitude of those objects.
