LANSING – Michigan voters approved Proposal 1 enacting the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act. Michigan is the first state in the Midwest to legalize recreational marijuana. Marijuana will be legal for broader use in Michigan under Michigan law; however, marijuana is still an illegal narcotic under federal law.
