ANN ARBOR—Officials of Online Tech, a provider of cloud services, announced that the company has changed its name to Otava.

Online Tech was acquired in early 2018 by Schurz Communications Inc., a Mishawaka, Ind.-based company that started in newspapers, and which now includes digital marketing and communications, cloud services, data centers, and broadband data services.

Schurz officials said the rebranding follows the acquisition later in 2018 of the cloud infrastructure assets of Austin, Texas-based Neverfail.

“The Online Tech name served us very well for 25 years, but as we continue to grow across the country and around the world, it is important to evolve the brand to better reflect our bold people, partnerships and purpose,” said Otava President and CEO Brad Cheedle. “Otava is a name that perfectly suits our company’s mission to continuously raise the bar in cloud services through our dedicated, client-focused support and operations teams.”

Otava will continue to provide cloud, colocation, data protection, disaster recovery, security, and professional services to thousands of customers around the world. Its 12 locations span the United States, Europe and Australia, and each environment is independently audited against the highest security standards including SOC 2, PCI DSS, HIPAA, and EU-US Privacy Shield. All Otava solutions are accessible through the proprietary OTPortal® offering visibility and control across the entire IT environment from a single pane of glass.

The word Otava means to take a musical note an octave higher—and in Finnish, refers to Ursa Major, one of the largest and brightest constellations in the night sky. In addition to the corporate name change, a new logo was revealed featuring a circle resting atop a gently arching line that is intended to represent the company’s rebirth and dedication to rising above all expectations. The tagline “expect exceptional” was also introduced as evidence of Otava’s commitment to deliver exceptional experiences to all current and future clients and channel partners.

Launched as Online Technologies Corp. in 1994 as a regional dial-up internet service provider, Otava evolved into data center hosting and colocation services with a focus on cloud compliance and security. In 2011, Otava (then Online Tech) became the first 100 percent HIPAA-compliant cloud provider in the U.S. Today the company offers a wide range of fully managed IT services to businesses and managed service providers around the globe.
