DETROIT – AT&T has activated an upgrade to bring faster speeds to nearly 100 cell sites in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston and St. Clair counties.

The bandwidth expansion provides additional capacity to the existing 4G LTE on the sites, creating increased data speeds.

AT&T customers using the network should experience better service when they’re watching videos, posting to social media or texting family and friends.

People using those towers will be using an expanded band of radio frequencies. That means greater speeds and additional capacity. It’s like going faster in your car when a roadway has extra lanes.

“Our customers are living their lives on the go. We know they rely on mobile Internet every day. That’s why we’re upgrading our network for residents and businesses throughout southeast Michigan and several surrounding areas,” said Jim Murray, president of AT&T Michigan. “We want to help them get the most out of their mobile devices – whether they’re watching videos, texting, or using social media.”

AT&T invested nearly $1.65 billion in its wireless and wired networks in Michigan between 2013 through 2015, driving a wide range of upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.

We constantly invest in our network to give customers the high-quality services they need to stay connected. This helps Michigan residents get the best possible experience over the AT&T network, whether at home, at work or on the go.
