ROYAL OAK – Talent, talent, talent is what is needed to keep Michigan at the forefront of auto technology, David Cole, Chairman of Auto Harvest, said on this segment of M2 TechCast. Skilled trades and technicians, engineers with electro mechanical skills, are at the top of the list.

Cole said the productivity improvements with the understanding of basic technology is a necessity. Hand-on experience is critical, Cole said. Some two million technical and technology jobs will be created in this new economy over the next few years, and not nearly enough people are in training now to fill them. The skills-shortage situation is only exacerbated by the fact tens of thousands of Baby Boomers with these skills are retiring.

Cole also discussed autonomous vehicles and whether the grandiose claims made by automakers that they will have autonomous vehicles on the road in the next five years will actually materialize.
