DETROIT One and a half years after TimePlay and Emagine Entertainment aligned to introduce multi-player interactive games to Movie-goers at Emagine  theatres across Detroit, the platform is about to pull back the curtain on a completely new concept. For the first time ever, Movie-goers will have the chance to participate in a gaming tournament for the chance to win cash prizes.

Launching February 9 and running through to March 8, the tournament concept will run at six Emagine theatres in Detroit. During that time, Movie-goers will compete against each other in a TimePlay gaming experience 15 minutes before their movie begins. Players’ scores accumulate during the program and the top 20 participants will compete in a larger dedicated final event on March 24.  As part of this special tournament, TimePlay will be offering new games revolving around sports and music.

“E-sports and  gaming has had explosive growth and we’re excited to bring this new mass casual gaming offering to the cinema,” says Aaron Silverberg, Vice President, Marketing, TimePlay. “We look forward to showcasing the games that we’ve created for this tournament.”

TimePlay’s proprietary technology transforms a smartphone into a game controller, which connects to the big screen and creates two-way interactivity. Movie-goers can participate in a completely new social entertainment experience, sparking live competition between family, friends and strangers on several of Emagine’s big screens.

“We are delighted to provide innovative experiences to our  audiences ,” says Melissa Boudreau, Chief Marketing Officer Emagine Entertainment. “TimePlay tournaments will encourage guests to further engage with one another, which ultimately delivers a more immersive cinema experience.”

“Playing alongside friends or strangers, TimePlay creates connection,” says Boudreau. “We welcome all movie-goers to come early for the tournament  and invite participants to explore the roster of new games ready for launch .”
