NOVI — A team from St. Valentine Catholic School in Redford Township won the 2017 Michigan Regional Future City Competition, hosted and managed by The Engineering Society of Detroit.

The daylong event was held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

St. Valentine was one of more than 30 competing teams to participate in the event. Hundreds of students gathered at the Suburban Collection for the competition.

Six-time defending state champion and 2014 and 2015 national champion St. John Lutheran School of Rochester finished second.

Third place went to Grand Blanc West Middle School, fourth place to Trinity Lutheran School of Utica and fifth place to Sarah Banks Middle School Team 2, Wixom.

St. Valentine now advances to the Future City national finals, featuring regional winners from around the country. They will be held Feb. 18-21 in Washington, D.C.
