SOUTHFIELD — The Engineering Society of Detroit will host a free information session on how engineers can earn the Professional Engineer designation on Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The event runs from noon to 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided. The session will be held at ESD Headquarters, 20700 Civic Center Drive, Suite 450, in Southfield.
Engineering professionals will be on hand to answer questions and provide engineers with the information they need to get started on the path to licensure.
The session will cover:
* Why engineers should consider becoming a PE
* State exam registration deadlines
* Requirements and process for completing state applications
* Recommended study materials and steps for preparing for the exams
* ESD’s Review Courses for FE and PE
* Real life experiences of PE’s who have taken the exam and passed

Since 1941, ESD has run some of the nation’s most popular and successful exam prep courses for both the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) and PE (Professional Engineer – Principles and Practice of Engineering) designations in a wide variety of disciplines.
This year’s FE review courses begin Tuesday, Aug. 15 for civil, electrical and mechanical engineers. The PE exam review courses begin Saturday, Aug. 26 for civil, mechanical, electrical and environmental engineers. Course prices range from $670 to $899.
ESD guarantees the courses, giving those who take the prep class and fail the exam the right to take the course again free within two years, except for a $50 course materials fee.
