DETROIT – Mayor Kevin Hinkley of Wixom, MI joined us to proudly announce the arrival in his city of Uber’s newest R&D facility in Michigan.  According to an article in Crain’s Detroit Business

Sherif Marakby, vice president of global vehicle systems for Uber, first revealed the plan to open a metro Detroit technology outpost in September, but the location was previously unknown. He said at the time that the Detroit area, like Pittsburgh, could also become a testing ground for Uber’s self-driving hailing service.

Uber released the following statement about the upcoming move to southwest Oakland county:

“We are excited to open our Wixom office this quarter, as this center will enable further collaboration with Tier Is and OEMs to make Self Driving Ubers a reality. Detroit shaped the history of transportation and we believe it has an important role to play in its future of this transformation. We have a strong presence in Detroit already and we know this new space will allow us to do more.”
