ANN ARBOR – If you’re one of the 100,000 plus fans that converge on the University of Michigan Stadium on a football Saturday who have been frustrated by cell phones that can’t find a signal, Verizon Wireless says they have you covered. Starting in September, Verizon will ride to the rescue with a COLT (cell on light truck) that will double network capacity at the Big House.
A COLT is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location and works especially well in dense areas with large crowds.
The COLT will let more Verizon Wireless customers use their wireless phones to make voice calls; send email and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones with fewer dropped calls and clearer reception. This is the fourth consecutive year Verizon Wireless has activated a COLT for the University of Michigan�??s football season.
“Year over year, data usage of our Michigan network has nearly doubled and voice usage has grown by nearly 10 percent,” said Greg Haller, president�??Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. “Our customers are relying on their phones much more, particularly at major sporting events like college football games. We want to ensure we can handle every call, email, photo, text and video message.”
