DETROIT – A quarter of the chief information officers surveyed in the Detroit area expect to hire information technology professionals in the first quarter of 2007, some 11 points above the national average.
The most recent Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Index and Skills Report shows 29 percent of executives surveyed plan to add staff during the quarter and 4 percent anticipate reductions in personnel. The net 25 percent hiring increase is up 16 points from the area’s fourth-quarter 2006 forecast.
The local results reflect a two-quarter rolling average based on the responses of 200 CIOs from a stratified random sample of companies in the Detroit area with 100 or more employees; 1,400 executives were queried for the national data.
The surveys were conducted by an independent research firm and developed by Robert Half Technology, which has been tracking IT hiring activity in the United States since 1995.
“A low unemployment rate, combined with continued strong demand for highly skilled professionals, is resulting in a need for IT specialists at all levels,” said Katherine Spencer Lee, executive director of Robert Half Technology.
