BOSTON A new study shows the value of telematics devices used in commercial vehicle markets will total nearly $7 billion in 2012, but right now profitability remains elusive for many telematics service providers as the sluggish business environment prevents them from developing large subscriber bases.

In a new Frost & Sullivan analysis, Senior Analyst Joerg Dittmer said he expects the profitability situation to change soon with more than 24 million commercial vehicles and five million truck trailers plying the roads of North America an immense market potential for telematics systems, which enable fleet operators to track and manage their trucks, trailers, mobile workforces around the clock.
