HOLLAND – By December, 26 percent of the companies in West Michigan will hire additional information technology staff, lead by computer consulting companies, the fall/winter Paragon Recruiting Employment Survey, another signal that the Michigan economy is on its way back up.
Some twice as many computer consulting companies (70 percent) will be hiring in the next six months as did the last six months. Manufacturers will be doing the least IT hiring. The smallest and the largest companies plan the most hiring.
??I am excited to see the upward trends in IT hiring,? said Beth DeWilde, President of Paragon Recruiting. ??Some experts say that IT hiring is one of the first to increase in an improving economy. It is also encouraging to see more increase expected at the senior level than ever before.?
About as many companies will be outsourcing technology projects in the next six months as did the first half of the year. More will be using several outsourcing locations so local outsourcing will rebound.
Paragon Recruiting, a local technology recruiting firm, has just released its new Technology Employment Forecast for the second half of 2009. Over 100 mid and west Michigan firms of varying sizes and industries participate in this semi-annual forecast. The many are faithful participants from one forecast to the next.
Other interesting statistics are compiled by expectations of hiring by company size, company industry, IT disciplines and skill levels. The following graphs are samples of forecasting trends.
