ANN ARBOR ? The National Science Foundation has awarded T/J Technologies a twelve-month, $250,000 grant to scale up a new Li-ion battery material. When integrated in to a rechargeable Li-ion battery, T/J?s material will give vehicle designers another stored energy option for future hybrid electric vehicles.
This grant adds to T/J?s growing list of rechargeable lithium-ion battery materials that are being scaled-up for defense, aerospace, and commercial applications. During the past eighteen months, T/J Technologies has been awarded contracts from the U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Research and Development Center, the Office of Naval Research, and NASA to develop advanced lithium-ion batteries using T/J?s proprietary materials.
?We are pleased that the National Science Foundation is again showing their confidence in our technical capabilities and our materials?, said Maria Thompson, President and CEO. ?Since last year, we?ve had to nearly double the size of our facilities and our staff to handle the increase in new business.?
T/J Technologies has been awarded more than 60 R&D contracts. The company also holds six patents, with many other pending in the areas of materials and energy materials technology. T/J Technologies also was named one of 50 Michigan Companies To Watch and has been named one of Southeast Michigan?s Top Ten Technology Companies.
