LANSNG ? Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm did not meet with officials from Honda on her trade mission from Japan, but other members of the trade team did present a plan Friday for bringing the Japanese automaker’s proposed new North American plant to Michigan.

Granholm press secretary Liz Boyd said Honda had not been on the itinerary for the trip initially, but she said company officials accepted the late request to meet with the Michigan delegation.

The meeting with Honda was one success Granholm mentioned in her Friday radio address, which was largely a wrap-up of the trip.

“This jobs mission was a great opportunity to insource jobs to Michigan,? Granholm said. ?This week in Japan has made me even prouder of Michigan – the business people I’ve met with and worked with have been so excited about the opportunities to grow in our state. You can bet that I’ll be back on the road soon, going anywhere and doing anything to create jobs here in Michigan.”

Boyd said the administration was not releasing the details of the plan presented to Honda. “The state has readily identified resources that we can make available,” Boyd said. And she had not yet talked with those who were in the meeting and so did not know how the proposal was received. She said there is also no word yet on a proposed new Toyota plant.

Granholm also noted a meeting with automaker Mazda, but Boyd said it was not clear at this point what if any plans the company had to expand.

The mission also is working to aid struggling auto supplier Delphi, courting potential buyers for Delphi plants in the state. Granholm did not indicate who those interested parties might be.

Granholm did, in her radio address and through the week, announce 12 new plants or plant expansions by Japanese companies she met with during her part of the trade mission. The projects would mean at least $84 million in investment and some 400 jobs.

Though Granholm has returned to the state, Michigan Economic Development Corporation CEO James Epolito and other state officials are continuing a tour of the Far East that will include Korea and China.
